New channel mode has been added to the FFT analyzer and the Oscilloscope
[RA]
In a monaural mode, some sound cards input only the left channel, but
some cards mixes both channels into one channel. It sometimes caused
problems when we want to measure only one channel input. To measure left and
right channels separately, channel mode (previously, 1ch or 2ch) has been
extended to Mono, Stereo, Left only, Right only, L-R difference.
Arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) has been added to the signal generator
[RA]
In the newly added Wave tab of the signal generator, arbitrary waveform can be
created in the waveform editor and stored up to five waveforms. A signal can be
tested by the oscilloscope or the spectrum in real-time, while editing the
waveshape. Stored waveforms can be generated in an arbitrary frequency and in a
sweep mode.
Improvement of the microphone calibration function [RA]
Two channels can be calibrated separately. On the calibration window, it can be
chosen from "Common" or "Separate" calibration data to be used for two channels.

the transient signal more efficiently. Spectrogram is displayed in real time in
grey levels or a rainbow color. Display time range, frequency range, and dynamic
range can be adjusted easily on the measurement screen.
Improvement of the octave band analyzer [RA]
Analysis bandwidth can now be selected from 1/1, 1/3, 1/6, 1/12, 1/24. Narrower
bandwidths allow finer frequency analysis. Also, the location of All-pass, 100
Hz, 1kHz, and 10kHz will be indicated by the gray band for clarity.
Improvement of the oscilloscope [RA]
Layout of the oscilloscope screen has been changed to match those of signal
generator and FFT analyzer. Interlock has been added to the Level range
adjustment. Zero level indicator has been added to the display.

Major update in RA
RA (Realtime Analyzer) is major upgraded for highly efficient and advanced
measurement. Following functions are available.
1) Realtime simultaneous measurement
The multiple sound input has been realized in this version. This enables the
simultaneous realtime measurement in the octave band analyzer, the oscilloscope,
and so. But note that this function depends on the performance of the PC's sound
driver. In some PCs, the multiple input is impossible or the operation becomes
unstable.
2) Current time display in the Window menu
During a measurement, it becomes easy to check a current time. When saving a
measurement screen using a snapshot function, it is convenient to record a
measurement time together. Overlay the current time window on the measurement
screen, and press the [Alt+ScreenCopy] key to save a picture file.
3) Input peak level monitor is always ON
Previously, the input peak level monitor on the RA's main window had to be
checked manually. It was for controlling the CPU power. Now the input peak level
monitor is always on during a measurement.
4) Time resolution up to 8x in the FFT analyzer
FFT analyzer's time resolution has become much finer. In the FFT analyzer, the
input wave data is extracted for every FFT size, then calculated, and the result
is displayed one by one. Display interval, or time resolution [s] is calculated
as FFT size / sampling rate. Frequency resolution [Hz] is its reciprocal. So the
time resolution and the frequency resolution could not be improved
simultaneously. To solve the problem, FFT calculation is not performed for every
FFT size, but performed with shifting data at a shorter interval. Consequently,
the apparent time resolution can be improved with the frequency resolution
maintained. However, when the time resolution is raised, the number the FFT
calculation within unit time and display processing will increase, and so the
CPU load will much increased. Set the time resolution, looking at the rate of
CPU use by the task manager of Windows.
Bug fix [RA]
A bug that occurred in the impulse response measurement was fixed. The bug
caused the system error when the measurement was started after the Adjustment
dialog was open.
25 Nov 2003
Improvement of the FFT algorithm [RA, SA]
Calculation in RA and SA has become much faster by the new FFT algorithm.
20 Nov 2003
64-bit database for measurement data and sound file
During a measurement, DSSF3 stores the sound in a database as a WAVE file. Since
the recorder function was equipped by the latest upgrade, very much amount of
data needs to be saved. Now, the database of DSSF3 has become 64-bit, and the
maximum size of 2000 GB can be stored. The database of RAE, RAD, and MMLIB is
still 32-bit at the time of default installation, but once you install the
DSSF3, these software can also use the 64-bit database.

Time constant of the FFT analyzer [RA]
Time constant of the smoothing function in the FFT analyzer can be set as time
(s or ms). The standard Fast (125 ms) and Slow (1.0 s) time window can also be
selected.
1 May 2003
Addition of the cross-correlation parameters in identification (EA) and
analysis (SA). [SA][EA]
In the EA (Environmental noise Analyzer), three cross-correlation parameters,
tIACC, WIACC, and IACC are added for the identification condition. These
parameters show the spatial information of noise source, and become the useful
cue for identification.
First parameter
tIACC shows the direction of noise
source. If the direction of the target noise is fixed, it can be discriminated
by this parameter from other noise heard from the different direction. For
example, it can be judged that "traffic noise comes from the road", "ship noise
is heard from the sea side", or "he sound from a press machine is heard from the
fixed direction". On the other hand, for the moving object, its speed and
instantaneous position can be calculated from the tIACC
values.
Second parameter WIACC is defined as the width of the cross-correlation
function, and it shows the apparent width of noise source. It also corresponds
to the dominant frequency component. So, if two sounds have similar frequency
components, these two sounds are classified into the same category.
Finally, IACC means the cross-correlation between two channels. Using this
parameter, the extreme case of IACC value (0 or 1) can be eliminated as error of
the measurement system. Noise from the microphones result in this value 1 and
noise from single channel makes this value 0. According to the revision of EA,
the same upgrade has been made in SA. This is for analyzing the same parameters
inevitably. (DSSF3 version 5.0.0.7)
Upgrade of the recorder function. [EA]
In the Measurement menu of EA, the "Automatic Calculation" menu has been added.
If this menu is checked, the recorded sound is automatically calculated as
before. If the check of this menu is released, sound is only recorded. Using
this function with "Auto measurement", the target sound can be recorded easily,
according to the specified measurement condition.
Wave file import is now available. [EA]
In the EA, wave file import is now available. Calculation of the acoustic
parameters and identification are possible as for the recorded sound. By this
revision, it becomes easy to change the template and try the identification. As
the running ACF measurement in RA, calculation can be simplified in the real
time measurement (measurement condition can be set to reduce the calculation
load). Detailed analysis and identification can be performed later by the batch
processing. As a further application, construction of the Internet oriented
telemeter noise monitoring system becomes possible. In this system, recording of
noise is made in the terminal machine and analysis is made in the host machine.
(DSSF3 version 5.0.0.7)
24 Mar. 2003
Automatic adjustment of sample rate in wave file recording. [RA]
When the wave file is loaded from the recorder window, its sample rate is
adjusted automatically.
19 Mar. 2003
Revision of the recorder function [RA]
Recorder function in RA is aimed to measure the wave file. Open the recorder
window and select "Recording", then open the FFT analyzer. Click the start
button of the FFT analyzer to start recording. When the wave file is loaded on
the recorder, and "Playback" is selected, the loaded file is played and that
signal is analyzed by the FFT analyzer. In the current version, the sampling
rate of the FFT analyzer has to be set same as of the wave file played back.
Otherwise, the wave file is not played back correctly. The revision of this
point will come soon.
17 Mar. 2003
Copy window image into MMLIB using Windows clipboard [RA][SA][EA]

RA, SA, and EA can be imported to MMLIB easily by using the "Window Copy"
function.
See the page for how to use the window copy function.
15 Mar. 2003
Measurement time of the Impulse response is shortened in "Auto Level" and
"Auto Retry" mode. [RA]
In the "Auto Level" mode of the Impulse response measurement, the sound output
level is adjusted by using the result of the test measurement. The length of the
test signal was same as the actual measurement. This procedure made a total
measurement time long in the previous version. To shorten the time for the test
measurement, a short test signal is used now.
In the "Auto Retry" mode, measurement is repeated twice and the accuracy of the
measurement is checked by comparing with the test measurement result. Criteria
of the accuracy is the time delay of the peak of the cross-correlation between
the test measurement and the actual measurement. When the time delay is large,
the measurement is repeated. In the previous version, this check was repeated
for the specified number of summation and it made a measurement time long. For
example, when the number of summation is 4, two measurements were repeated four
times. To shorten the measurement time, the accuracy check is performed after
one measurement, and the measurement is repeated only when it does not pass the
accuracy check. By these revisions, the automatic measurement becomes easier.
More accurate results are attained in shorter measurement time.
27 Feb. 2003
Revision of the measuring time input in manual measurement mode. [EA]
Manual measurement of EA had a problem that the change of Max Sampling Time is
not reflected until the Manual Measurement window is re-opened. Today, this
problem is fixed.
26 Feb. 2003
Change of the impulse response display. [RA][SA]
The impulse response was displayed as vertical lines. Now its waveform is
displayed.
Enables easy comparison of "Previous" and "Next" data. [SA]
When the "Previous" or the "Next" data is selected on the main window of SA,
data is shown with the same parameter and the same zoom size. So the properties
of many data are easily compared.
16 Feb. 2003
Recording monitor's real time refresh. [RA]
The monitor display in the recorder window is refreshed in real time during the
measurement.
14 Feb. 2003

minutes is possible. Playback of the recorded sound can be measured by the
realtime analyzer simultaneously.
The DSSF3 version 5 is installed separately with the previous version (version
3). It is possible to use both. However, measurement data may be eliminated at
the time of installation. Important measurement data should be backed up in
advance. Specify the data folder in the Setting Utility to use the former data.

Online program manual, PDF manual, and Q&A can be accessed easily. Click a Help
menu to see them. Online program manual and Q&A are always updated. PDF manual
can be downloaded to your computer for offline review. In version information,
Product URL and Company URL are added. You can send us a question email
directly.
Change the function name of "Realtime Analyzer" to "FFT Analyzer" [RA]
In RA, the function name "Realtime Analyzer" was changed to "FFT analyzer".
10 Dec. 2002
Improvement of the impulse response measurement and the bandpass filters.
[RA][SA]
At the time of impulse response analysis in SA, noise was found in the end of
the band-passed impulse response waveforms. To reduce this noise, bandpass
filter design was improved. When the former data does not open in RA and SA, try
a calculation again. Then data is converted and can be used.
The MMLIB data import function of the analysis result of environmental noise
data [SA]
Measurement data can be exported to MMLIB by one-touch after analyzing
environmental noise data by SA. Now, together with the impulse response and the
Running ACF, all the data (a date, a time second, a setup, graphs, and analysis
values) can be exported to the MMLIB in an instant.

TSP (Time-Stretched Pulse) [RA]
The MLS method and the TSP method can be used in the impulse response
measurement of RA. TSP is the signal in which the energy of an impulse is
distributed on the time axis. In the TSP method, an impulse response is
calculated by generating TSP signal, acquiring the response and returning the
dispersed energy. It can be used as previous only by choosing one of the MLS and
the TSP. The analysis by SA after measurement is same as previous.
Enhanced 1/3 octave analysis function [RA]
In the 1/3 octave band analysis, the average value (moving average) is displayed
if the average time is specified (from 1 s to 10 s).
Relative level setting function [EA]
There are two measuring methods in EA. 1) Manual start : decide a measurement
time and start measurement. 2) Auto start: Measurement starts when the sound
level exceeds the specified value. Before, the sound pressure level as a
measurement start conditions was specified on a noise level. Now, to make it
easy, the relative level setting is available. The noise level is expressed
during the measurement as the relative level to the average level of the first 2
seconds. For example, if it is set to 20dB (the average for 2 seconds of the
beginning of a measurement is automatically set as 0dB), the noise exceeding
20dB will be measured automatically. The obtained data can be analyzed by the
running ACF in SA.
28 Nov. 2002
Stopwatch display is added to RA. [RA]
The "stopwatch function" was added to a real-time analyzer. It is used for the
signal generator, power spectrum, 1/3 octave analysis, a 3-d display, real-time
autocorrelation, and the cross-correlation display. Time count starts with a
measurement time display by the "start" button, and a count ends by the "stop"
button.
Improvement of a file management function [RA]
When saving the data of an impulse response and ACF, the existing files are
rearranged by the folder name and a data name automatically. If you devise a
file name, efficient file management is possible.
26 Nov. 2002
The refresh rate of a real-time display can be specified up to 4 times. [RA]
Display speed can be specified in the real-time display of a power spectrum, 1/3
octave band, a 3d display, the autocorrelation, and the cross-correlation.
Standard, double and 4 times can be specified as a display speed refresh rate.
Peak hold time can be specified up to infinity. [RA]
In order to observe spectrum analysis of whole a CD or DVD, two features are
added to the peak hold function of the 1/3 octave band analysis. It is possible
to hold a peak during the specified period or until the manual reset is done.
20 Nov. 2002
Improvement of ACF data playback function [RA]
When you hear a playback of measured ACF data, a green line indicates where is
replayed at the moment.
15 Nov. 2002
A real-time display function is added. [EA]
te,
t1
and f1 are displayed in real time on the
main window of EA (Environmental Noise Measurement System).
14 Nov. 2002
Improvement for extensive use of EA [EA]
As measurement timing of the measurement conditions, an option of "Trigger SPL"
(Sound pressure level to start measurement) is available in addition to existing
"Maximum Peak" (Maximum sound pressure level). When "Trigger SPL" is chosen, if
sound pressure level comes to the specified value, automatic recording
measurement is made during period specified in "Fwd" and "Bwd" (what seconds
before/after the specified SPL).
1 Nov. 2002
Impulse response measurement function was improved. [RA]
The check boxes "Auto Level" and "Auto Retry" ware added in the impulse response
measurement function of the RA (Realtime Analyzer), which enables to release
these functions.
The RA already has a function for automatic level adjustment. This time it
becomes possible that you adjust sound volume (output level) arbitrary if you
turn "Auto Level" off. Up to now it was outputted at a certain volume (about
70%). However, now you can adjust it using Windows sound volume control.
As for the automatic retry function, you can release it at your option.
The choice of 8bit/16bit becomes 16bit fixed.
17 Oct. 2002
Graph display function of the running ACF and the IACF-related is strengthened.
[SA]
The zoom function (magnification display) and the scroll function of
the Y-axis are added. The analysis graphs of the ACF parameters (Φ(0),
t1,
f1, and
te),
and the IACF parameters (IACC, tIACC,
and WIACC) can be zoomed in/out with a suitable time resolution for
the precise display.
The amount of data to be treated in SA increased rapidly in accordance with the
recent improvement in analysis time resolution or analysis accuracy. For
example, if it analyzes at the running step of 10ms for 5 seconds signal, 500
lines of data will be outputted. The data for one line includes all the
parameter values mentioned above. In the previous version, those data had to be
exported to Excel, or users have to look at the numerical table, to check these
exact numerical values. However, in this situation, it is a hard work only to
look at the data outputted. This additional function is improvement for
analyzing such a vast quantity of data visually.
Useful "Zoom" button
Once you click the zoom button, graph can be dragged and it can be moved
to all directions freely with a mouse. The previous zoom bar was changed into
two buttons of "+" and "-" with the compact and intelligible small glass mark.
Also, you can return it to the original size by one click.
Also, the "Screen Copy" button can output the combination of those graphs with
suitable scales.
16 Oct. 2002
96kHz sampling support [RA][SA]
When the sound driver corresponded to the 96kHz sampling, the 96kHz
sampling could be chosen in RA or SA. Even when the sound driver did not
correspond this sampling, a 96kHz WAVE file can be loaded and all analysis can
be performed in the running ACF window. Specifically, in the case of Roland
UA-5, USB connection is made in advanced mode and it can be used by 96kHz
sampling. However, it cannot output and input simultaneously with 96kHz by
restriction of UA-5 and USB connection.
15 Oct. 2002
The zoom function of a time-axis was added in a real-time display of the
autocorrelation and the cross-correlation. [RA]
The function was added to enable easy and highly precise measurement. It
is possible to zoom the correlation function to a suitable scale by moving the
slider in the lower right of the real time display. It is a function convenient
for performance measurement of a motor, tuning a musical instrument, or voice
analysis, etc.
The function for two channels display is strengthened. [RA]
Also, a dual display mode is newly added in RA. It displays two channels
on two upper and lower panels in each display screen of the spectrum, 1/3 octave
analysis, a 3-dimensional display, and a real-time display of the
autocorrelation. (Previous version only had the function displaying two channels
by two colors of blue (left) and red (right).) By this new function, the 3D
display of 2CHs also became very legible. Click the check box "Split L-R" on the
left of the Exit button to change the display mode easily.
11 Oct. 2002
The function of a graph display was strengthened [SA]
Horizontal scrolling was enabled with the zoom of the time-axes in the
graph of F(0), t1
and f1,
te,
IACC,
tIACC,
WIACC, ACF, and IACF. It became possible to display the section to
investigate precisely in suitable time resolution. Once you click the zoom
button, graph can be dragged and it can be scrolled directly with a mouse.
29 Aug. 2002
The RA (Realtime Analyzer) corresponds to the extended functions when it
reads the previous measurement data. A precise display and a recalculation in
the new condition are possible. The SA (Sound Analysis system) also uses a new
extension function as it is, and can re-analyze the previous measurement data
with new functions.
28 Aug. 2002
The minimum range of integration time and a running interval was extended
(up to 0.02 sec integration time and 0.01 sec running interval) for the RA
(real-time analyzer) of DSSF3 at the time of running ACF measurement. The same
configuration can also be set for the SA. This upgrade is mainly for the
research in the speech analysis, but this precise data acquisition is also
effective for the other analysis field (such as the environmental noise,
heartbeat, and so on).
Useful information
The speed about which man speaks ordinarily is several characters in 1 second.
In order to recognize them, the short time window [to divide 1 second into about
50 units] was required. According to "concert hall acoustics", the time window
for 2 seconds was a time window for music. For recognition of sound, it turns
out now that the time window of the short time to about 1/100 also exists.
14 Aug. 2002
It came to be able to perform a setup for taking an input level enough in
accordance with the maximum volume at the time of measurement in RA (real-time
analyzer) of DSSF3. Calibration can be canceled by one click for the power
spectrum, 1/3 octave analysis, 3-d display of the power spectrum, and the ACF
display.
Useful information Set up for the input device
When the RA was set as a noise meter the input might be too small to analyze the
recorded sound. Therefore, when you use the RA as a noise meter, it could be
specified by one-touch, and when unnecessary, the function can be canceled
immediately. You should just click the Release button. Then the display of the
SPL is switched between the noise meter and the relative SPL (the maximum volume
is set to 0 dB).
13 Aug. 2002
For the RA (Realtime Analyzer) of DSSF3, a calibration is automatically
canceled at the time of impulse response measurement and running ACF
measurement. If you need to see the noise level, calibrate your microphones
before the measurement. After grasping a noise level, you can set up the
configuration so that sufficient input level for measurement of Running ACF and
an impulse response may be secured.
Useful information The calibration function for a noise meter display
When the real-time analyzer is used as a noise meter, the noise level is
displayed in dBA on a vertical axis. It is necessary to set up the relation
between the input volume of an input device (microphones, microphone amplifiers,
etc.), and a noise level at once. Once it is registered, it can be called by
one-click.
